In the "Global Gallery", rows of dynamic exhibits make you feel though you've wandered into another world. Spanning 6 floors from the third floor of the basement to the third floor above ground, you'll get to learn about the formation of space, the earth, and living things, as well as the history and progress of science.
"Investigation Technology for the Earth" on the second floor of the Global Gallery is a special place where you can see the earth and observation data in almost real time! There are also are lots of great hands-on experiences to be had: you can move the image by holding your hand over the moving monitor, and you can observe the earth by satellite. It's even exciting for adults!
On the third floor of the Global Gallery, "Animal of the Earth", you can enjoy various taxidermied mammals and birds. The realistic stuffed pandas, which are overwhelmingly popular among the mammals, are sure to wow you. It feels like the pandas, which are right in front of you, could jump out at any time; how exciting!
The various taxidermied mammals in front of you transport you to a different world. The different species include bears, cheetahs, camels, and so on, so you get the chance to really see these strong animals. Here you can broaden your knowledge of animals!
As you walk around, you can see everything from large to small animals. Your heart might skip a beat when you make eye contact with them! On the third floor, there is also the popular "ComPaSS -Exploration area for families with children", a corner that parents and children can enjoy. On the first floor of the Global Gallery, "Evolution of Life -Exploring the Mysteries of Dinosaur Evolution-," there are an amazing number of dinosaur skeletons! Here, you can thoroughly explore the origins, size, diversity, extinction and mysteries of dinosaurs♪ Even the same dinosaurs have different skeletons depending on the type, so it's nice to enjoy getting to see those differences.
On the second floor of the Global Gallery, the skeletons of Basilosaurus and Tylosaurus are on the ceiling! Even though they're skeletons, it feels as though they're still alive, pulling you into the fascinating world of dinosaurs. There are dinosaurs every which way you look, so the excitement never stops!
"The Japan Gallery" was founded in 1931 and boasts a more than 80-year history. Based on the neo-Rennaissance style, it consists of four floors from the first basement floor to the third floor above ground.
On the first floor of the Japan Gallery, "Techniques in Observing Nature", you can learn about the history of the technology that Japanese people have used to observe nature. The Trawton Astronomical Telescope, which was the first introduced in Japan, is overwhelmingly large! It is also registered as an important cultural property of the country.
There is also a Celestial Globe created by astronomer Shibukawa Shunkai in the Edo period. He compared the 283 constellations from China with the actual stars, and added 308 new stars! Looking at this piece, you can sense the passion and enthusiasm of the time.
On the second floor of the Japan Gallery, "Japanese People and Nature", you can learn how Japanese people have been involved with nature. Plus, the taxidermied body of Hachiko is on display here! It is a must-see at The Japan Pavilion.
Taxidermy of an "Iriomote yamaneko" that lives only on Iriomote Island. It's difficult to see the real thing, but here you can take your time to observe this animal. It is slightly larger than a normal cat and has a long tail.
On the third floor of the Japan Gallery, many skeletons and real fossils are on display at the "History of the Japanese Islands". The skeleton of the Plesiosauria's Futabasaurus, which is seven meters long, is very impressive. On the third floor, "The Real Face of the Japan Islands", there is also the "Nature of the Japanese Islands" exhibit, showing the both geographically and climatically rare nature of Japan.
