The corridors of the outer walls are designed in such a way that they would break in a manner similar to that of a bird call, alerting the guards to any possible intruders! Nijo Castle was home to the appointment of Shogun, as well as the return of power to the emperor, marking it as the stage where both the birth and the death of the Edo Era, as well as the Tokugawa Shogunate.
