A western-style house with a history that goes back to the Meiji era, and a Japanese garden and Place of Scenic Beauty where you can take it easy.

Murin-an was constructed during the Meiji Period (1868-1912) as the holiday house of Yamagata Aritomo (two time prime minister, the father of Japanese militarism, and the designer of Murin-an).
It consists of the garden and three buildings: the main wing of the house, the western style building, and the tearoom, and has received high praise as a wide open natural space.
It was designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty in 1951.
In addition to enjoying both western and Japanese style ambiances, matcha and seasonal sweets, you can also experience lessons on traditional cultural and tea ceremony.
