Meiji Shrine

Meiji Jingu is a shrine built in 1920 and is worshipping Emperor Meiji and Empress Dowager Shoken.
It is known for having the largest number of visitors on New Year's Day in Japan.
The original structure burned down during The Second World War. Therefore, the current building is a reconstruction from 1958.

On the shrine's grounds is a dense and lush forest of over 700 000 square meters.
It might look like a natural forest, but it is actually an artificial. The trees were dedicated from all over Japan and from Taiwan.

Meiji Jingu, with its luxuriant green surroundings, is quiet enough that you will forget that you are in the city. Therefore it is a popular place to go to relax.
